Dar Szczecina heads to The Tall Ships Races
The tall ship Dar Szczecina, with the Szczecin Sailing Team, is leaving its home port and setting course for this year's The Tall Ships Races 2026. The route runs across the North Sea through ports in Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway: from Aarhus via Harlingen and Antwerp to Stavanger and Aalborg, between late June and early August. It is the maritime prologue to what Szczecin lives for every August, the great sailing celebration on the Oder. Culture: the Philharmonic, books and a welcome to summer
At the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic, this year's edition of the Słyszę Dobre Dźwięki ("I Hear Good Sounds") festival begins (19 to 21 June). It is an unusual programme about hearing itself: it opens with a debate on "acoustic smog", and includes workshops for infants, movement classes for children, mindfulness sessions for parents and meetings for seniors. The climax is an open-air Music Day in Żeromski Park, free and open to all.
The same weekend brings back the Second-hand Book Fair on the square by the fountains next to the Pleciuga Puppet Theatre, and on Saturday the Spanish guitarist Enrique Gomez-Cabrero Fernandez plays a cross-border early-music concert, with a coach laid on from Szczecin. Business by the water: GDS Forum & Impact Day
From 16 to 18 June the Baltic Culture Port hosts GDS Forum & Impact Day 2026, a meeting devoted to sustainable business and the social impact of companies. It is one of the gatherings that draw visitors from beyond the region and show the city from the angle of a modern economy. The venues where such events happen are gathered in our places section.
Transport: what to watch in the city
Drivers and passengers have a few changes to remember this week:
- from 18 June a new traffic layout applies on Zbójnicka Street, so plan a detour;
- the "Wita Stwosza" stop has been temporarily moved for lines 75 and 521;
- Tramwaje Szczecińskie is training dispatchers and supervisors in difficult conversations with passengers, that is, in defusing tense situations on board.

From the region: an award for freedom and support for communities
The loudest news from the Marshal's Office is the International King Erik of Pomerania Award for Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the Belarusian opposition. The ceremony took place on 15 June in Darłowo, with the laudation delivered by Zbigniew Bujak, a Solidarity legend. The award honours building peace and unity in Europe, and its patron is King Erik of Pomerania, born in Darłowo, ruler of the Kalmar Union.
Among the less spectacular but locally important regional decisions: further volunteer fire brigades in the Kamień and Goleniów districts received "firefighter grants" for renovating their stations, agreements were signed with four districts for six road projects, and Świnoujście hosted the PSEW2026 conference on security, industry and the energy transition of Western Pomerania.
