July arrives in Szczecin at full speed: the city is preparing for its own birthday, the tall ship from the Chrobry Embankment wins the first leg of a major race, and the calendar swells with open-air concerts and festivals. The city celebrates: Szczecin's 81st birthday
On Sunday 5 July Szczecin marks its city birthday. The programme includes historical re-enactments, a spectacular video mapping on the city hall facade, concerts and a family picnic in the Rose Garden, and, as tradition dictates, a giant cake, this year weighing 81 kilograms. The same day, in the heart of the city by the Social Services Salon, a neighbourhood festival runs from 11:00 to 17:00, turning the space into a hub of meetings, workshops and shared fun for residents.
That neighbourly energy spills over into the following weeks. As part of Summer on Batory Square, holiday Wednesdays fill with volunteer activities and animations in the centre, a good moment to get involved in city life without leaving downtown.
By the water: Dar Szczecina wins the first Tall Ships leg
The best maritime news of the week: Dar Szczecina, with the Szczecin Sailing Team, won the first leg of The Tall Ships Races 2026, on the route from Aarhus to Harlingen. It is a historic result for the Szczecin yacht and the best possible prologue to what the city lives for every August, the great sailing celebration on the Oder. This summer you can take water literally as a means of transport. From 4 July a water tram runs along the Oder, linking Szczecin with the German towns of Mescherin and Gartz, an unusual cross-border idea for a weekend trip. The starting point for most waterfront walks remains the Chrobry Embankment and Łasztownia.
Summer in culture: festivals, jazz and roses
The open-air calendar is in full swing. On the terraces beside the Summer Theatre in Kasprowicz Park, from 3 to 5 July the Come With Us festival plays, with a chill-out zone, food stalls and a workshop programme split into a daytime part and an evening music zone. In Różanka the Rose Garden of Art returns: Sunday concerts, family workshops, dance parties, an open-air reading room and yoga on the grass.
A highlight of the second half of the month is jazz. On 18 July the world-class saxophonist Candy Dulfer plays the Summer Theatre in the open-air edition of the Szczecin Jazz festival. We gather more ideas for every day in our culture section and on the events page.
A new point may appear on the city's cultural map. On 8 July there is a meeting about the future of the former school at 14 Wielkopolska Street, which the city wants to turn, under the name Stara Szkoła ArtHub, into a space for creators and neighbours. It is one of those meetings where people really do decide what will appear around the corner.
Transport: what to watch in the city
A few changes worth remembering when planning July routes:
- from 4 July the tourist tram line 0 returns to the tracks, running at weekends with heritage carriages on a loop through the city's key spots, an attraction in itself, not just a ride;
- from 5 July traffic changes in Pomorzany: the crossing on Smolańska Street opens, reshaping the flow of road traffic in the area;
- beneath the new Northern Route a 76-metre culvert is being built which, besides draining the Grzęziniec watercourse, will serve as a safe passage for small animals.

The city asks and invites behind the scenes
Until 3 July the last consultation meeting runs on the Szczecin Resident Card, a programme of discounts and perks for residents, so it is genuinely the last moment to submit your comments. Meanwhile, on 11 July, Saturday tours of the EcoGenerator, the modern waste-processing plant, begin, with prior registration required. From the region: S6 completed, funds for the waterfront's future
The most important regional news concerns roads: the final stretch of the S6 route has been completed, cutting the drive from Szczecin to the bay and on towards the Tri-City to about three and a half hours. It is a change everyone planning a Baltic holiday will feel. In parallel, Szczecin is reaching for EU funds to develop its waterfront areas, that is, for what will reshape the banks of the Oder and the islands over the coming years.
