Club seasons wrap up: Pogoń 9th in the league, King Wilki Morskie 5th in basketball, Chemik Police 7th in volleyball. Individually the region shines: AZS rowing medals, an MKP swimmer heading to the Euros in Paris and Julia Marciniak's world title.
The region's club seasons have wrapped up, and the time for summaries reveals two faces of Szczecin sport: the teams finished their campaigns unevenly, but individually West Pomerania is shining, from rowing gold to a taekwondo world title.
Teams: season review
Football. Pogoń Szczecin finished the PKO BP Ekstraklasa season in 9th place (45 points, 13 wins, 6 draws, 15 losses) and did not qualify for European competition. The team was led by Thomas Thomasberg, and the club is preparing for the 2026/27 season starting at the turn of July and August. The home-match schedule will appear soon.
Basketball. King Wilki Morskie Szczecin finished the Orlen Basket Liga season in 5th place, going out in the play-off quarter-finals after a tight series with Zastal Zielona Góra, confirming their place among the league's top sides.
Volleyball. The women of LOTTO Chemik Police, playing at Szczecin's Azoty Arena, ended the Tauron Liga season in 7th place, below expectations after years of dominance. The club is already building its squad, extending the contract of Natalia Mędrzyk.
Handball. Sandra Spa Pogoń Szczecin are fighting to return to the top flight: the team took 2nd place in the second division and are contesting promotion play-offs.
Individuals: the region's pride
It was the individuals who shone brightest. Rowers from AZS Szczecin brought four medals from the Polish Championships in Poznań, led by Maria Taczek (gold in the lightweight single sculls and silver in the lightweight double with Wiktoria Kula), with Piotr Bagniak adding two bronzes.
Swimmers from MKP Szczecin have reasons to be proud: Klaudia Tarasiewicz qualified for the European Open Water Swimming Championships (Paris, August), and Karol Ostrowski won gold in the 50 m freestyle at the Polish Championships.
The region also echoes with major combat-sports successes. Julia Marciniak from Szczecinek claimed the taekwondo world title (Glasgow) and victory in the kickboxing World Cup (Budapest).
