Update: the major failure of the fi 600 water main on ul. Starkiewicza in Pomorzany is under control. The damaged section was shut off around 10:30 and water is returning across the city. Some areas may still see lower pressure for a while.
On the morning of Saturday 20 June 2026 Szczecin faced a serious water supply failure. A large diameter water main (fi 600) was damaged on ul. Starkiewicza in Pomorzany, and a significant part of the city felt the effects. At the peak, some residents had no water at all, others very low pressure. We gather city updates in our news section.
Where the problems were reported
Disruptions were reported mainly from these areas:
- Pogodno
- Centrum
- Pomorzany
- Drzetowo and Grabowo
- around al. Piastów
- ul. Ratajczaka
Lower pressure may have been felt briefly in other districts too, as a main of this size feeds a large part of the network.
How quickly water came back
Crews acted fast. At around 10:30 the damaged section was shut off, which stopped the leak and let restoration begin. Over the next few hours water returned to one part of the city after another. After an outage this large it is normal for pressure to dip briefly in some buildings, and for the first water from the tap to be aerated or slightly discoloured.
What to do if your water is still off
- Check whether the issue affects the whole building or only your flat.
- Run the cold tap for a minute or two: after a major failure the pipes need to release trapped air, and the first water may run cloudy.
- If the outage persists, report it to the 24 hour water emergency line 994 (the line can be overloaded after a big failure, so it is worth trying again).
